Pittsburgh, PA, the steel city, the town full of bridges, The city of Pittsburgh actually has a long history. Founded in 1758 the city was named by General Forbes to honor Sir William Pitt. The city of Pittsburgh was incorporated in March of 1816. There are many forts and other sites of famous battles in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. Pittsburgh as most know was a steel town, at one point in time Pittsburgh produced as much as half of the countries steel. This is still evident in the air quality at times.

Pittsburgh is rich in history but it is not just an old town . There are plenty of companies from the technology sector that are located in the city of Pittsburgh. The city provides wifi service anywhere downtown outside, the first two hours are free daily. Pittsburgh has a young blood mayor that seems to be willing to improve and keep the city ahead of the game.

The city also has several great hospitals that are on the cutting edge of research such as UPMC. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is a leading hospital in many areas of medical research including organ transplant and so much more.

There are many things to do in Pittsburgh. Here is small example of places and events in Pittsburgh. The Carnegie museum is an excellent museum that brings many traveling exhibits throughout the year. There is kennywood park. There are of course many night clubs and bars. Pittsburgh also has quite a slew of fairs and festivals from the three rivers arts festival to any one of the ethnic festivals that go on throughout the year. There is also the recent addition of slots parlors in the Pittsburgh area. The “casinos” in Pittsburgh will be coming soon.

Pittsburgh is also a great city to pursue higher learning. Carnegie Melon university, The University of Pittsburgh and many more offer great educations in various fields of study. There are also a few liberal arts colleges and technical schools in the Pittsburgh area.

Don’t forget Pittsburgh the city of champions. All three of Pittsburgh’s major sports teams have been champions at one time or another. Admittedly it has been a while for the pirates. Pittsburgh also has fairly new stadiums, except for the arena but that is due to change. The Steelers play at Heinz field a great stadium. The Pirates have PNC park which hosted the All Star game in 2006. The Penguins have a new home coming soon.

All told Pittsburgh has a great deal to offer. Whether you are a history buff seeking to explore battle sites. A prospective student looking for a great education. Even you need the latest and best in medical care. Pittsburgh is a city that wears many hats and when the day is done it is a pretty great place to call home.
